The LIttle Mermaid Jr. is the latest production at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre performed by the Youth Education Entertainment (Y.E.S.).  You can see this charming musical every Saturday and Sunday at 11AM until June 3rd.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

The Morgan-Wixson Theatre's Youth Education/Entertainment Series (Y.E.S.) is a commitment they've made to engage young audiences, train young talent, and support literacy. Participants range in age from 8-18.  Y.E.S. offers four youth productions each year and one full-length Youth Musical each November/ December. Performances are on Saturdays and Sundays.  Most Y.E.S. shows are selected to support national and local school reading lists.  For information about our weekday school shows, send an email to mwtyes@gmail.com.  Y.E.S. productions are open to all and there are no fees or membership dues for participation. To perform or work behind-the-scenes, please sign up to receive audition information by joining their mailing list.

The musical is directed by Anne Gesling, music Directed by Zoe D'Andrea, choreographed by Krystal Combs & Eileen O'Donnell, and produced by Tracy Saltzman & Miriam BIllington. Music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman & Glenn Slater, and book by Doug Wright.

Since 1946, the Santa Monica Theatre Guild (Morgan-Wixson Theatre) has been a source of entertainment, inspiration, and education for residents of Santa Monica, the Westside and Los Angeles. For all these years at Santa Monica’s only community theatre, thousands of performers, designers, technicians, and volunteers have dedicated themselves to enriching the cultural life of the area by providing hundreds of outstanding theatrical productions, workshops and showcase performances. They offer a full season of five musical and non-musical plays with a subscription series, single-show and group reservations, as well as student and senior discounted admissions.

Fixin' the Morgan-Wixson is happening in August if you're interested in helping to fix up the theatre with new seats and new guest areas.  It's a well-deserved face-lift and we're all looking forward to the finished results.  You can find out more on their website.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.  The cast is filled with talented kids, who have amazing acting, singing, and dancing skills.  Every time I attend one of their musicals, I cannot believe these are children performing.  They are so professional and we've been impressed every time.  If you have a child interested in acting, singing, or theatre, you should definitely think about having them audition for one of these Y.E.S. musicals.  Reading about the cast, you can see some of the actors have been in multiple productions for several years, which is pretty significant in the acting world.  Best example of that is Fiona Porter, who plays Ursula, and is enjoying her last production after many years.

In short, it was a great production and we loved every minute.  Tickets are already sold out, but you might be able to go to an added show, as they sometimes set those up.

Up next, Mary Poppins will be performed from June 30 to August 4th and Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook will be performed from July 14 to July 29 and it's never too early to buy your tickets.
