Last Spring when I was mindlessly scrolling through Pinterest looking for ideas of places in California that might be a fun road trip destination, I saw The Flower Fields in Carlsbad. I packed up my girls before dawn one morning and we made the seven hour drive to go see them. We had annual passes to Disneyland, so I was always looking for reasons to head that direction. We had a blast, but headed back a little more North to spend the night in LA and I regretted not spending more time in Carlsbad.
One year later, when I had the opportunity to head to Carlsbad to attend a Macaroni Kid training, I couldn’t miss the chance to spend more time there. This year, we would stay at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. My husband had to work, so it turned into our second annual girls trip to Carlsbad. We jumped into the car after the girls got out of school on a Friday and made the drive down the 5. When we arrived, all three of our jaws dropped. We had stayed at nice hotels before, but we had never seen anything like the Omni La Costa. It was truly breathtaking. It was late when we arrived, almost 11 PM, but it was so stunning all lit up at night. The palm trees and fountains were glowing with the perfect amount of lighting.
Checking in was a breeze and the girls both received these awesome drawstring backpacks filled with goodies to keep them occupied during their trip. The trip could have ended there and they would have thought it was a win. It was such a thoughtful touch that made them feel so welcome.
When we got to our room we continued to be blown away. Again, we stay at hotels a lot. I didn’t know I could get giddy with excitement over things in a hotel room, but I turned into a kid with my girls when we opened the doors. It was such a great size room and the bathroom... Oh the bathroom. The bathtub was Gi-normous (seriously huge... my girls took a bath THREE times while we stayed there.. only two nights.... and they usually only bathe three times a week if I’m lucky). The shower was gorgeous and spacious and don’t even get me started on the water pressure. All the little things you don’t know you're missing in life that a bathroom can offer. After my daughter’s were done with bath number one of the trip, (at almost midnight), we all fell fast asleep and wrapped up the best start to a vacation. I wasn’t sure it could get much better, but boy was I wrong.
We woke up bright and early the next day because I had a training to attend at the Omni for Macaroni Kid. The girls had reservations for child care at the Kidtopia Kids Club at the Resort and they were so excited. Right before I was about to go bring the girls to Kidtopia my husband Justin called and had some super exciting news. HE WAS THERE; HE HAD FLOWN IN TO COME STAY WITH US. His work trip was postponed, so he had hopped on a flight to see us and was going to stay the rest of the weekend!! He was Uber-ing from the airport to come join us. The Omni was absolutely amazing! They helped me make the changes to both my reservation, adding him onto the room and allowing us to change our Kidtopia reservation. The girls ended up only staying at the kids club for two hours instead of the initial full day and I’m forever grateful for how they handled the changes and just kept our dream vacation going. The girls were then able to enjoy the Omni and all it had to offer, plus have a blast in Kidtopia for a couple hours. They got to do a fun art project and even asked if they could go there again next time we came... uh, of course!). The Omni La Costa could have told us we couldn’t change the reservation or charged us for the full day for the last minute change, but they are so accommodating to families. It’s so awesome how such a beautiful resort is so family friendly.
