Evite has been a tool for hosts and guests since 1998 and continues to keep up with the top trends of the time. Evite saw that everyone was on the internet, everyone had emails, we were digitally connected, people were becoming more tech savvy and eco-conscious, so they came up with a solution for party planning with ease and it was all about making get-togethers more memorable. If you have not used Evite, it is a tool for the host to keep track of guest lists, RSVPs, party info, directions, and last minute updates all in the same place. Now, Evite is becoming a 360-experience, a one-stop-shop for getting inspiration, tips, theme ideas, whatever you need.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Jessica Bailey, the Digital Content and Production Lead or as she put it best, the Resident Party expert.  Jessica has been with Evite for the past four-and-a-half years and was instrumental in starting the content portion for the company.  We spoke a lot about parties in general, but especially Baby Showers, as Jess  herself has a 6-month old baby boy.  It’s been almost 7 years for me since I had a baby, so she updated me on the most popular trends going on right now and I’m loving them all.  Here’s a list for you:

  • Gender Reveal - blue or pink?  Do this with a cake-cutting, balloon launch, or a piñata full of candy.  This is also fun for a sibling to be a part of the baby experience and announcement and for them to feel included and excited about the new addition to the family.
  • “Sprinkle” parties, a clever play on a smaller version of a “shower.”  to show it’s not just about the first baby anymore. “Sprinkle” parties are much smaller more intimate gatherings to celebrate, and a chance to register for any items the parents might need for their second child.
  • “Sip & See” parties are where friends drop by over the course of a few hours, similar to an open house, to see the baby and sip Champagne. A “Sip & See” party will generally take place a few months after the baby is born. This gives the parents a chance to rest and catch their breath before sharing their new bundle of joy and it gives your loved ones an organized time to come and see the baby.
  • Co-Ed Baby Showers or Man Showers sound great too. I love that the dads are now celebrating this milestone. My favorites are BYOD (Bring Your Own Diapers), as we all know you need A LOT of them. A “BEER and BABY-Q” sounds like something my husband would have LOVED! Men are also doing rounds of golf or whiskey tastings with the boys and just having FUN! This helps some dads who maybe don't feel involved and it also shows them they are a big part of the celebration and get ready for it…they are going to be changing some diapers!!!

GIFTS?  Jess recommends her favorite, an in-home massage gift certificate for the new mom.  Also, be mindful of what the new mom has registered for and try not to impart your own words of wisdom on the hormonal, emotional mom-to-be who has spent countless hours researching what would be the perfect bathtub, playpen, or bassinet.  If this does happen to you MOM-TO-BE, just remember to handle it with grace.  Guests: STICK TO THE REGISTRY and Bring a gift receipt please!

What does Jess recommend in order to have a successful party?  She said, “It boils down to great people + great food = a great time!” Of course, a great atmosphere is also a recipe for success and choosing your location carefully can help you stay on budget.  If you are watching your pennies, throw a potluck party at home and keep the guest list on the smaller side.  If money is not a concern, then SPLURGE on the food and drinks!  Keep your guests happy!  If you don’t pay attention to the guest list or who’s coming, and you don’t plan accordingly and buy enough food, you will have hungry angry people.  Also, if your friends have kids, provide a nanny and a dedicated area for the kids to play so that the adults can have an elegant dinner or party without having to worry about the babies and toddlers.  If you want an adult-only affair, etiquette says there is nothing wrong with specifying that on the evite.
