Top Star Wars Toys

By Courtney Lewis December 16, 2015

Star Wars The Force Awakens' excitement has taken over the nation. The epic tale of good vs evil has captured the hearts of the young and old and with that comes massive merchandizing.

Some of the hottest toys this year are Star Wars toys. Here are our favorites for the 5-12 age range (and what my boys hope is under the tree this year):

Sphero's BB-8  is an app-enabled droid that is controlled with a smartphone, tablet or your voice. BB-8’s personality will change and adapt as you play with it giving it different commands or creating adventures .  You can create and view holographic recordings that BB-8 can deliver. I will definitely be sending a BB-8 hologram message to my Jedi that it is time for homework! The BB-8 retails for $149.00 http://store.sphero.com

Star Wars The Force Awakens Micro Machines Millennium Falcon Playset- This reminds me of the Star Wars toys I had growing up. This Millennium Falcon playset converts to a miniature desert battlefield complete with awesome action features, and includes a Millennium Falcon Micro Machines vehicle and a First Order Flametrooper Microfigure. Collect and battle with these and other favorite vehicles and figures from Star Wars Micro Machines. These look like the perfect toys to take on a trip, or even out to dinner because they are small and can be contained.  $49 http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=60538146#showReviews

Revell Model Kits-  Revell has a model kit for the very young to the master builder.  Revell sent us some SnapTite Build & Play kits directly from the movie "Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens!".  The kids loved them, they were able to construct them independently, with the 5 year old getting a little bit of help from his older brother.  There were no tools, paint or glue needed for assembly. The Snap Design is great because if the kids then want to play with the models they can. The kids were running and jumping around outside playing with their new models , and they held together wonderfully.  If there was a crash, the piece was quickly snapped back in without interrupting the play.  Skill level 1 kits (recommended for kids 6-8 ) are less than $25

Costumes, Clothing PJ’s and Gear - Not just for Halloween, expect to see lots of little Jedi around town this winter. From head to toe costumes to storm trooper rain boots we loved the selection at the Disney Store and have found their products , gear and costumes to really hold up after lots and lots and lots of use.

LightSabers- What Lightsaber you choose depends on if you are a Jedi Master or a member of the Dark Side.  These are so many options for Lightsabers on the internet with all kids of different features - there were some for over $1,000. Here are our two picks for great lightsaber battles:

The Kylo Ren Lightsaber from the Disney Store features the mysterious villain's distinctive crosshilt blades, lights, motion-sensor sounds, battle-clash rumble and dueling effects. $30.00 -

For the Jedi Master we think the Bladebuilder set from Hasbro is very cool.  Kids can build (and rebuild) their own custom Lightsaber with the components included, (no tools needed). These Lightsabers also have classic Star Wars light and sound effects.
$50

I hope you (I mean your kids) have fun with their new Star Wars- The Force Awakens Toys-  This clip from SNL last week has me rolling.
