Zimmer Children’s Museum Hosts Family-Friendly Premiere of I AM ELEVEN

Saturday, Sept. 20

September 18, 2014

Do you remember when you were 11? The Zimmer Children’s Museum’s programs encourage young people to develop their own social consciousness and understand that they are a part of a global community, leading the Zimmer to host a family-friendly LA premiere of the new documentary I AM ELEVEN that explores what life is like for 11-year-olds across the globe and their evolving perspectives as they emerge into adulthood.

“The beginning of adolescence is such a formative time in the development of young people – an age between the freedom of childhood and individual exploration in the teenage years,” Zimmer Children’s Museum Director Julee Brooks said. “This movie reflects the values that we try to instill in young children every day – global awareness, empathy and personal reflection.”

The family friendly premiere of I AM ELEVEN will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Royal Laemmle Theater. The event will feature pre-show activities that build cross-cultural understanding offered by the Zimmer Children’s Museum and World City Center and a post-show Q & A session with the film’s director Genevieve Bailey.

“I wanted to make something energetic, optimistic, universal and real. I thought back to my favorite age in life and why I loved it so much. When the world feels big in a good way, and at our feet. For me, that was when I was 11,” Bailey said. “In some ways the only thing these people share is their age; on the other hand, this age seems to create a potent sense of union between such scattered subjects – from India to Morocco, Bangkok to Amsterdam, from the Upper East Side of Manhattan to my hometown Melbourne.”

I AM ELEVEN has already garnered numerous awards from across the globe, including the Outstanding Documentary Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival, People's Choice Award at Melbourne International Film Festival Australia and Audience Award at the European Independent Film Festival France. The film also runs in four additional theaters across the Los Angeles area:

·      Laemmle Royal, Los Angeles

·      Laemmle Playhouse 7, Pasadena

·      AMC Burbank 8

·      AMC Orange 30

·      AMC Rolling Hills, Torrance

Tickets

Tickets are available on the day of the performance at the Royal Laemmle Theater box office for $10.
