5 Local Charities to Take Your Donations To

Six boxes of clothes, toys, school supplies, and baby gear are sitting in my garage waiting to be donated. I haven’t been able to park in the garage for two weeks because I didn’t know the best (or easiest) way to donate these items. I did a little research and found 5 great charities that take donations on the Westside. Some are drop off and some will come get your items from you.  Find their information below: 

 

NCJW|LA 

 

NCJW|LA serves Los Angeles through our community mental health programs and supportive services, educational and youth engagement programs, intern training, scholarships, and clothing assistance.NCJW|LA’s social justice programs build awareness and advocate for vital issues that affect the women, children and families of Los Angeles including children’s rights, economic justice, healthcare, human trafficking, reproductive justice, LGBTQ rights, and gender-related violence.The revenue generated by your donations serves thousands of women, children, and families in need throughout the Los Angeles community.

Itemized donation receipt for income tax purposes are offered at every location. Your donation may be eligible to be claimed as a deduction for federal income tax purposes as allowed by law.

 

There are eight Council Thrift Shops in Los Angeles (click HERE for locations) All stores are open seven days a week for shopping or dropping off donations. Donation drop-off hours: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  If you have a large donation you can schedule a pick up HERE

Benefits Teen Challenge  a non-profit organization that relies entirely on donations, funding and volunteer efforts of both individuals and organizations throughout the communities in order to offer services at no cost to the individual.  Community involvement and support is an essential component of recovery and necessary to providing services that address the specific needs of the communities involved.It is the mission of Teen Challenge to provide men and women an effective and comprehensive faith-based solution to drug and alcohol addiction as well as other life-controlling problems. We are committed to enabling and equipping those we serve to find freedom from addictive behavior, to become socially and emotionally healthy, physically well and spiritually alive. Teen Challenge reaches out to people from all backgrounds, with particular emphasis on the urban poor, women, and ethnic minorities. We also give back to the communities we are in with outreaches, events, after-school programs and much more.

Good Will 

 

When you donate to Goodwill Southern California, you help individuals with disabilities and disadvantages in your community secure sustainable employment through education, training, work experience and career placement services. Goodwill supports its mission of Transforming lives through the Power of Work with proceeds generated from the sale of donated goods at 81 retail stores.

 

Good Will accepts items in good or new condition. Everything from clothing and accessories, to small household appliances, e-media and computers, cars, fine china, art and other collectibles.  Read Donation Guidelines HERE

St. Matthew’s Thrift Shop: 

St. Matthew's Thrift Shop gives 100 % of their net proceeds to local organizations, Venice Family Clinic, St. Margaret's Center, SPY: Safe Play for Youth, Las Familias del Pueblo, K9 Connection, The Children's Lifesaving Foundation, and Airport Marina Counseling Service.  

The St. Matthew’s Thrift Shop accepts gently used shoes and clothing, accessories, small household items, books,  In addition to clothing, we are always in need of high-quality donation items as listed below.Please note, we do not accept golf clubs, TVs, major appliances, mattresses, or anything that is not working like new.)

Items may be dropped off at the back door from the alley behind the store. 

A donation receipt will be available at the time of drop off or online.

Baby2Baby 

 

Baby2Baby distributes gently used baby gear and clothing through a network of community-based organizations. Baby2Baby partners with non-profit organizations that work directly to assist low-income children and families.
