We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It fuels us and can play an important role in our performance and focus during the whole day. Having a good breakfast really sets the tone for the day but it always seems to come way too early in the morning, when we are all rushing around looking for shoes, packing lunches, finishing homework (never us, but I hear other people do this). I couldn’t figure out a way to do all the things that needed to be done in the morning as well as make a quick healthy breakfast with protein and whole grains that the whole family would eat without getting up at an ungodly hour. I was making 4 different breakfast orders each morning - they were semi healthy but took forever and left me with a pile of dirty dishes .
Bob’s Red Mill was a sponsor for our Healthy Back to School Party earlier in the month and they sent us over samples of their Oatmeal in a Cup to try out and share. It was a huge hit. These hot cereals, which are also easy to take on the go, are made from a blend of gluten free quick rolled and old fashioned oats, stone ground oatmeal, wholesome flaxseeds and nourishing chia seeds. They come in a variety of flavors:
- Gluten Free Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Cup
- Gluten Free Blueberry Hazelnut Oatmeal Cup
- Gluten Free Brown Sugar & Maple Oatmeal Cup
- Gluten Free Classic Oatmeal Cup
We have the Brown Sugar and Maple flavor, with Flax and Chia, which tastes great as it comes, but we have had fun experimenting with different add ins. Some of our favorite ways to customize our oatmeal cups are mixing in golden raisins, dyed cherries, bananas, different kinds of berries, coconut flakes, maybe even a few chocolate chips. It is a great and easy way to change up the flavor and texture everyday as well as getting your kids to try something new. I also want to try this (CLICK HERE) super simple recipe for Brown Sugar & Maple Overnight Oats using the Oatmeal cups, milk, greek yogurt and bananas.
Each Oatmeal Cup is
- High in fiber and protein, with at least 7 grams each per serving
- Gluten Free
- Full of Whole Grains
- A good source of iron
- Ready in 3 minutes - Just add Hot Water (or microwave) and let sit for 3 minutes
