A Musical Road Trip Through America
The 2015 season features music that spans the vast musical traditions and cultures across America—from New Orleans jazz to the hip-hop–infused beats of East L.A. to the country tunes of the American West
The Skirball Cultural Center presents the 2015 season of its annual Family Amphitheater Performances series, held each summer in the Skirball’s one-of-a-kind outdoor amphitheater. Dedicated to bringing people together across generations, cultures, and communities, the 2015 season is inspired by the exhibition Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution—on view at the Skirball through October 11—and focuses entirely on American music.
“In the spirit of Bill Graham and the influential way he fostered community through the live events he promoted, we are pleased to present this ‘musical road trip’ and offer families a taste of music from all corners of the country without ever leaving sunny Southern California,” says Jennifer Maxcy, Head of Family Programs. “From the toe-tapping Dixieland music of the California Feetwarmers to the funky hip-hop and Latin beat fusion of Buyepongo, the Skirball is the place for outdoor family concerts this summer.”
As always, the summer-long series is presented under the canopy of the Skirball’s grand yet intimate amphitheater, where families are encouraged to sing, dance, and interact with performers. While here for the performances, families can also chill out together in the Skirball’s groovy, ’70s-themed Summer Family Lounge, visit the exhibitions, make a one-of-a-kind art project in the Family Art Studio, and sift and sort through ancient artifacts at Dig It! Archaeology Adventures.
