Hard "Boiled" Eggs - the easy way
My favorite new trick is how to "hard boil" the eggs. I didn't boil them at all but baked them.
Put eggs in a cupcake pan
Cook at 320 for 30 minutes
Let eggs cool before moving them to the fridge or decorating . I put them in a bowl of ice water for 10 minutes. The one thing I can't figure out is that when I make them this way there are always some brown specks on some of eggs. I'm not sure if it is from where the egg touched the pan or something else.
Shaving cream - Tie dye eggs
Fill a pan with white shaving cream
Add food coloring
Swirl with a toothpick
Put egg in and cover with mix- Leave for a while - The directions said 3-4 minutes but we kept ours in for at least 10
Rub off shaving cream with a paper towel
Verdict- the color and design were very light, it was pretty messy but fun. Some of them turned out great but most were too light.
Oil & Water- Tie dye eggs
Start with a bowl of hot water, enough that it will completely cover the egg
Add a splash of vinegar
Add several drops of food coloring into the bowl
Then add two tablespoons of oil
Drop the egg into the bowl
Add a few more drops of food coloring directly onto the egg
Take your second color and drip directly onto the egg
Remove the egg and use a paper towel to pat dry - and then watch as the beautiful pattern emerges
Verdict- We didn't get the super cool tie dye effect that the photo showed. Ours looked pretty much just like we used the regular dye mixture and dipped them in two colors
Wrap rubber bands around the eggs
Leave eggs steeping in dye for a minute (or desired length of time)
Unwrap band, repeat and begin process again until you have desired effects you are looking for
Verdict- This was our favorite, it was pretty easy and we got some really cool eggs
