National STEM Education Center Opens Doors for K-8 Students

Zaniac, national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) after-school enrichment centers where learning feels like play, is open in Santa Monica.

Zaniac offers programs and camps that get kids excited about math and science while preparing them for 21st century jobs. Popular programs include Zaniac Robotics: LEGO®, Game-Based Learning: Minecraft™, 3D Printing, App Creation, Fashion Design and Computer Programming. The bright, colorful campus features glass-walled classrooms with white boards and large multimedia screens as well as a variety of tools to engage students in real-world applications of STEM subjects.

My boys and I went to an open house and we were totally blown away. I could not believe what they were learning and how quickly the kids were figuring out ways to make legos play music, program robots and design and use a 3D printer. The instructors were very hands on and really had fun with the kids, encouraging them to be creative, to try new things and not to get discouraged if they didn’t get it right away.

Speaking of not getting it,  I was really trying to understand the classes but it was just not connecting for me. That is when it hit me…I was thrilled to have Zaniac because my kids can do these amazing classes and programs and I don’t have to try to learn and then try to teach them. The STEM ship has sailed for me and as much as I try to fake interest in Minecraft I couldn’t tell you anything about Steve or axes or diamond axes!  But these instructors know it all, and they know how to teach the kids the newest tricks and tips.

I had such a great time just watching my boys and the other children at the open house diving right in and using all kinds of different skills to figure out how to make it work. I loved the musical legos they made in the Tinkering workshop, but their favorite,  hands down, was the MINECRAFT room.

Classes at Zaniac are 6 weeks and meet once a week for 90 minutes.
The next session starts August 22nd
They also offer Parents Night Outs
and this Thursday, Aug 18, is a Free Open House

Zaniac, Santa Monica, is owned and operated by franchisee Tracy Williams, who has a 25-year career in technology and video game marketing. Williams said she is most passionate about helping kids explore technology to broaden their interests and uncover strengths during developmental years that will help them make better decisions for their futures.

“I’m thrilled to bring Zaniac to Santa Monica and provide children with exposure to STEM early on. This is an opportunity I was also given at a young age, which helped pave my successful technology career,” said Williams. “Kids are our future and they’ll be able to accomplish anything they set their minds to when given the right tools.”

The Santa Monica campus marks the first Zaniac location in California, serving the West Los Angeles area. The after-school STEM enrichment franchise currently has corporate campuses open in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah, in addition to franchises in Miami, New York City, Connecticut and Massachusetts. The fast-growing franchise has a campus set to open in Southlake, Texas early this year and plans to reach 50 campuses total by 2017.

“Zaniac in Santa Monica provides an ideal solution for parents looking to get their kids involved in STEM education during their formative years,” said Zaniac President and Co-Founder Sidharth Oberoi. “We’re dedicated to creating innovative STEM programs for students to explore a variety of fields and are confident Zaniac will become the go-to after-school program for Los Angeles-area families looking for fun and rewarding options for educational enrichment.”
